Albanian Coast Accommodation Guesthouse Vasili Sustainability

The Vasili Carkalli Family

Vasili Cakalli and his family live in their guesthouse all year round. The rooms are always for rent, but are busiest during the high season of July and August. During the rest of the year, they supplement their income with livelihoods of fishing, cultivation, and raising livestock. The family is native to Vuno.

Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

The family's livelihood depends on the traditional, small-scale agriculture that has been practiced in the area for ages. At the guesthouse, you can sample their delicious homemade honey, the olive oil they have hand-pressed from their olive harvest, yogurt and fresh milk from their cows, fruits such as grapes, figs, oranges, and lemons, and even the local brew 'Raki' that they make themselves from their fruit harvest.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

By choosing Vuno as a destination for your holiday, you can support the ongoing clean-up, conservation, and tourism readiness initiatives in the area. An Albanian non-profit organization, on Outdoor Albanian Association, is actively involved in helping the area prepare itself for a sustainable tourism while maintaining its natural and cultural integrity.
